Three Red Raiders Selected to NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas - After receiving its fourth-consecutive bid into the team NCAA Championships on Tuesday, Texas Tech men's tennis had three players earn bids into the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. Sophomores Raony Carvalho and Gonzalo Escobar will compete in the singles draw, while Carvalho and sophomore Rafael Garcia will play in the doubles portion.
The singles and doubles portions of the NCAA Championships run May 26-31 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., hosted by the University of Georgia. The team competition of the championships will held a week earlier from May 21-25.
Heading into the championships, Carvalho is currently ranked No. 17 and Escobar is No. 37. Carvalho and Escobar were two of the 64 players selected for the singles draw. The two players have almost identical records in duals this spring as Carvalho owns an 18-6 record, while Escobar is 17-5.
Carvalho and Garcia are the 17th-ranked duo in the country with an 11-8 record in duals this year. The pair will compete against 31 other teams.
The No. 14 Red Raiders open the first round of the NCAA Championships next week on Fri., May 14, as they take on Wichita State at 11 a.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla., on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.
