LUBBOCK, Texas - Following her first full season that resulted in an NCAA Regional appearance, Texas Tech head women's golf coach JoJo Robertson is preparing for what hopes to be another strong season by the Lady Raiders with the announcement of the program's 2010-11 tournament schedule.
The Lady Raiders will travel to four tournaments in the fall, beginning in less than a month with the Ptarmigan Ram Classic on Sept. 13-14 in Fort Collins, Colo. Tech will travel north to Illinois for two tournaments, one to the Windy City Collegiate (Oct. 4-5) in Highland Park, Ill. and the other being the Lady Northern Invitational (Oct. 11-12) in Chicago. The squad completes the fall in Wilmington, N.C. for the Landfall Tradition on Oct. 22-24.
After a fall spent primarily in the north, the Lady Raiders begin their spring campaign in warmer weather with the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan on Feb. 13-15. The rest of the schedule sends the squad to both sides of the country with the Kinderlou Challenge (Feb. 27-March 1) in Valdosta, Ga., the San Trust Gator Invitational (March 6-7) in Gainesville, Fla., the Mountain View Collegiate (March 25-26) in Tucson, Ariz., and the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (April 4-5) in San Francisco.
Tech will prepare itself for the Big 12 Championships with a dual match against Iowa State on March 15 before taking part in the Baylor Invitational on April 11-12. The 2011 Big 12 Championships will be held April 22-24 at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo.
"We're definitely excited for this upcoming season simply for the fact that we've been invited to some of the best tournaments in college golf," Robertson said. "Some of these tournaments are brand new to us as a program, but they include some great fields and venues, which will be a great test for our team."
Robertson returns five players from her 2009-10 squad that came a few strokes from qualifying for the NCAA Championships, while also adding three freshmen to a still young squad in Hannah Arnold, Katie Grady, and Paloma Martinez. Seven of the eight players on the roster currently are either classified as sophomores or freshmen with the lone upperclassman being senior Alex Gibson.
