Kaufman Finishes Fourth at Ptarmigan Ram Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas - Kim Kaufman carded a 1-over 73 to record her first career top-five finish Tuesday as the Texas Tech sophomore completed the final round of the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in fourth place.
Playing at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo., Kaufman paced the Lady Raiders through three rounds, finishing with a 4-under 212 after beginning the tournament with a 5-under 67 opening-round lead. Kaufman fired an even-par round in the afternoon session Monday and completed the tournament with her 1-over card Tuesday.
Kaufman trailed individual winner Kayla Mortellaro of Idaho by five strokes. Colorado's Emily Talley finished second at 7-under, while Pia Halbig of California secured third at 5-under.
The rest of the Tech squad continued its struggles from Monday, however. Alex Gibson fired a 2-over 74 to finish 12-over on the tournament and in a tie for 53rd place, while Gabriella Dominguez posted a 14-over overall card and Paloma Martinez finished 21-over. Deborah DeVilla, who was playing as an individual, finished tied with Dominguez at 14-over after a 3-over 75 final round.
Tech finished in 13th place overall with a 904 combined score, four strokes behind New Mexico State. Colorado claimed the tournament title with a 1-over 865, topping California (3-over 867), Oregon (8-over 872), Louisville (9-over 873), and Baylor (10-over 874).
The Lady Raiders will take the rest of the month off until returning to the links Oct. 4-5 for the Windy City Collegiate in Highland Park, Ill.
