Red Raiders Advance Two at RCCI

LUBBOCK, TX - The first day of competition at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas, concluded with two Red Raiders winning their opening round matches and advancing to singles action on Saturday.
David Pace won his opening round match against Tulsa's Alastair Barnes, 7-6, 5-7, and 17-15 in the super tiebreaker. The junior from San Antonio then beat Baylor's Robert Verzaal in two sets, 6-4, 6-4. David will face the No. 6 seed Zach Nichols from TCU on Saturday.
After gaining a bye in the first round, Raphael Pfister downed OU's John Henry Warden, 7-6, 6-4. The sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, opens play on Saturday against No. 5 seed Tommy Laine of Maryland. Laine is currently ranked 118th nationally.
Jeff Bryan lost his opening round match to Tulsa's Grant Ive, 6-1, 6-4.
David Gonzalez dropped in his opening round match to Bryan Jointer of ACU, 6-3, 6-7, (11-9).
In doubles action, Jeff Bryan and David Pace defeated New Mexico's duo, Carl Ho and Mads Hegelund, 8-4. Then the Red Raider pair lost to Baylor's Sergio Ramirez and Robert Verzaal, 8-6.
Texas Tech's David Gonzalez and Raphael Pfister lost their doubles match to UT's Ben Chen and Chris Camillone, 8-6.
Singles play begins Saturday at 9:00 a.m. for David Pace and Raphael Pfister.
The Red Raiders are in action next week at the Baylor Invitational in Waco.
