Texas Tech Postgame Quotes
Head Coach Kristy Curry
On moving on from the loss against Texas
"We have talked all year about getting ready for the next one, but at the same time, I think there needs to be an awareness as far as we don't want to, too nonchalantly turn the page and get ready for the next one."
On Texas having a stronger second half
"Give Texas credit. I think you have to give them credit for being aggressive and for making plays. They were able to make some plays offensively and we weren't. They were more aggressive to start the second half and that has hampered us lately, and I have to figure that out and make a change because it has been too much lately."
On getting Tech to have a stronger sense of urgency
"Obviously, if I had the answer, I sure would fix it. So, we have to do a better job as a staff. I think Casey (Morris) can support me on the fact that I did everything I could at half time to get their attention to get off to a better start, we talked about what we want to do against the zone, what we want to do against the man and how we need to come out and be more aggressive. It is great. It is our ball, for a change, to start the second half and how we needed to defend and rebound the way we had when we finished the first half."
On Casey Morris' performance against Texas
"I think that has been something Casey has talked about trying to do, and we have tried to encourage her. We just have so much confidence in her. It is sad that she can get on track and Mo(nique Smalls) can have a good night, and then it seems like we just can't get all the pieces together. We just have to continue to stay the course, and I talk about our growth, mental toughness wise, well we are going to see what we are made of here."
Guard Casey Morris
On her performance against Texas
"I just felt like I was in attack mode. Coach Curry even told me to keep shooting and stay confident, so that is what I did."
On Chassidy Fussell's buzzer beater in the second half
"I just think she had a lucky shot, and it happens. That is just the game of basketball. Sometimes you are on and sometimes you are not on, and tonight she was on."
On getting Tech to have a stronger sense of urgency
"I feel like our energy needs to be higher, and we need to come out every night playing like it is against a top team like Baylor, so we can have success. We can't take nights off especially in the Big 12, being as competitive as it is."
Texas Postgame Quotes
Head Coach Gail Goestenkors
On their performance against Tech
"I am really proud of the team. Texas Tech is a tough team and just scouting them I have really enjoyed watching them play, and I told Kristy (Curry) you can see their team chemistry is good. They play hard. They have a really good inside-outside attack, so I knew this was going to be a battle from start to finish. I thought it was a great game probably for the fans to watch. It was stressful for us as coaches but back and forth the entire game. So, I am just really proud of my team. The way they responded to the runs Tech made to the start they had and we took better care of the ball the second half which had to happen, and we had to rebound the ball, and I thought we did those two things, especially in the second half."
On what changed in the second half
"We started the second half, we went with a bigger lineup. So, we put Ashley Gayle back in the lineup with Kristen (Nash) at the four and we moved Kat (Kathleen Nash) to the three. They have such great size, and we just went a little bit bigger. We thought we were defending better with the big lineup."
On Ashley Gayle's performance
"I am really proud of her. A(Ashley) G(Gayle) has been working so hard all summer and all this year and sometimes I know she probably feels like its not paying off when she doesn't score, but we know it is there and she knows its there. So, I was really proud of her tonight. She was attacking the basket and finishing, and that was huge for us."
Guard Chassidy Fussell
On her buzzer beater in the second half
"I just knew the ball had to hit the rim, so I pretty much just threw it to the rim and luckily it went in."
Forward/Center Ashley Gayle
On her performance against Tech
"Coach (Ronald) Hughey actually talked to me before the game and the past few days just telling me that we know we can do better in the post and just reassuring me that I have done a lot of work especially, all the post have done a lot of work. He kept telling me it is going to pay off eventually, so today I knew I had a job in the post both on defense and offense. So, I just tried to help my team out."
