Escobar Advances To Finals Of ITA Texas Regional Championship

Gonzalo Escobar advanced to the finals of the ITA Texas Regional singles championship.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas Tech's Gonzalo Escobar won a pair of matches on Sunday to advance to the finals of the ITA Texas Regionals held at Texas A&M University.
Escobar, the No. 11-ranked player in the nation, has now won five straight matches to advance to the finals of the event. He is also 10-1 in singles to open the season.
On Sunday, Escobar recorded wins Texas A&M's Colin Hoover and Baylor's Mate Zsiga to reach the final.
"Gonzalo played two very good matches today," said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. "He showed a lot of toughness and played very smart."
In doubles, the third-seeded duo of Rafael Garcia and Gabriel Wanderley lost in the quarterfinals to the Texas A&M fifth-seeded team of Alberto Bautista and Jackson Withrow, 8-4.
Escobar will play in the ITA Texas Regional Championship on Monday at 10 a.m.
