The Texas Tech baseball team's fall season is underway and throughout the remainder of the semester, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will take an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Jamen Parten (RHP - 6-2, 190 - R/R - Jr./1L - Plano, Texas/Plano/North Central Texas College)
Jamen Parten returns for his junior season in 2012, his second as a Red Raider. Parten is as versatile as they come on the mound. He made starts on the weekend, he started in the midweek, he pitched in short-inning situations out of the bullpen and he was used as a long reliever as well.
Parten started out last season as one of Texas Tech's starting pitchers. He won his Red Raider debut over Utah Valley while pitching five innings and allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts without allowing a walk.
He later had an impressive start against No. 8 TCU, where he went toe-to-toe with Horned Frog ace lefty Matt Purke, as he went 6.1 innings with four strikeouts and no walks while giving up just three runs (two earned).
Parten was solid in relief as he registered a perfect 0.00 ERA in six innings of work. He retired 4-of-6 first batters he faced, and inherited four base runners, none of which ended up scoring.
In fact, Parten was the only Red Raider pitcher to make a relief appearance who did not allow an earned run during the season.
On the year, Parten went 1-4 with a 6.10 ERA in 15 appearances with nine starts while pitching in 41.1 innings with 23 strikeouts and allowing 10 walks.
"Jamen Parten has had a good fall," fourth-year head coach Dan Spencer said. "He has given us some good starts. His stuff is a little bit better than it was a year ago. He is in way better shape. He has done a good job with his body. He is going to be a valuable guy, he can pitch in a lot of different roles."
In addition, Parten is one of eight Red Raiders who made starts last season. Seven of those pitchers return for Texas Tech this season.
