LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Billy Gillispie Era of Texas Tech men's basketball officially begins on tonight, as the Red Raiders host Southwestern Oklahoma State in an exhibition game at United Spirit Arena at 7 p.m.
The Red Raiders are made up of plenty of new faces, as just three letterwinners from last season return to the fold for the 2011-12 season. Leading the way for Texas Tech is lone senior Robert Lewandowski, who has seen action in 95 games over the last three seasons.
"It is a little different but that is just part of the game," said Lewandowski of the influx of new players. "It is part of the world we live in, there is going to be change. At the same time it is such a great opportunity to meet new people, and I have 15 new brothers now so I really enjoy it."
That brotherhood will be tested tonight and Saturday, as Texas Tech offers two free previews to the men's basketball team with open seating for tonight's exhibition, as well as Saturday's exhibition with Our Lady of the Lake University, which is set for 7 p.m.
"Well some days at practice it feels really good and some days it doesn't," said Gillispie. "No, it is always fun and there are always going to be ups and downs. We have already experienced some of those and you know those are coming, but the greatest feeling is just to be back working and those kind of things. We are really excited about these guys and Texas Tech, and we are really looking forward to the season."
The regular season tips off on Friday, Nov. 11 at 8:30 p.m. against Troy University.
