Texas Tech senior forward Kierra Mallard was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week for Week 4, announced by the Big 12 Conference on Monday.
Mallard averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds in Tech's two wins last week over Texas State and No. 16/15 Penn State. She had a season-high 15 rebounds in the 70-66 win over the Lady Lions and also had six steals, six assists and was 14 of 31 (45.2 percent) from the field. Her 18 points and 15 rebounds against Penn State was her third double-double of the season and 19th of her career.
Mallard has led Tech in points in three of the seven games this season and led in rebounds in all but two.
This is the first honor for Mallard this season. She received the award once last season following Texas Tech's win over No. 1 Baylor.
The Lady Raiders (7-0) moved up to No. 16 in The Associated Press Poll on Monday after toppling Texas State and Penn State last week. Tech is off to a 7-0 start for only the third time under head coach Kristy Curry and extended its non-conference winning streak at home to 38 games with the twowins. Tech has also won the previous four contests at home against ranked opponents (Baylor, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Penn State). Tech faces UT-Arlington (1-4) at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before a 10-day break.
