Tech Women's Tennis Falls to Nebraska, 4-3

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team battled with Nebraska for every point but fell 4-3 at the Lubbock Country Club.
"I give all the credit to Nebraska," head coach Todd Petty said after the match. "Nebraska played well on the pivotal points and we struggled when the pressure was on today. We will learn from this match and get ready to hit the road."
Moved to Lubbock Country Club and played indoors due to inclement weather, the single matches were played first. Nebraska (17-4, 5-2) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with wins at the No. 4 and No. 2 matches.
Samantha Adams put Tech (15-5, 5-2) on the board winning a tough three-set match with Nebraska's Madeleine Geibert (6-4, 3-6, 6-4). The freshman is now 14-4 overall and 5-2 in Big 12 play.
The Lady Raiders were left to wait for the final two single matches as Nebraska won the No. 3 single match. Nikki Sanders and Haley Fournier responded and kept Tech alive.
Sanders beat Jennifer Holmberg 6-1, 7-6 (11-9) while Fournier made sure the doubles point would be played with a 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 victory over Maike Zeppernick.
Tech went into the doubles point having only lost one time in conference and just twice overall. Nebraska struck first at the No. 1 doubles. Kesly Garland and Adamas couldn't hold off Geibert and Steffi Weinstein who won 8-6.
Patricia Veresova and Janine Weinreich clinched the match for Nebraska beating Caroline Starck and Sanders 8-5.
Elizabeth Ullathorne and Haley Fournier salvaged the last match winning 8-7 (7-3) over Jennifer Holmberg and Maike Zeppernick. The duo is 13-4 overall now and 5-2 in conference play.
Tech will hit the road this week for a match with Colorado on Fri., April 15th at 2 p.m. followed by the match with Missouri on Sun., April 17 at 1 p.m.
