Tech Tennis Takes Down Missouri

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team tied a school record with its seventh conference victory of the season after taking down Missouri 5-2 in Columbia, Mo.
Tech (17-5, 7-2) took the momentum from Missouri (11-9, 3-7) early by winning all three double matches followed by wins in the first three single matches to clinch the match. The Lady Raiders seventh conference win is tied for most in a single season.
"I thought this was one of the better all around matches we have played all season," head coach Todd Petty said after the match. "We took control of the double matches and all three teams played well. We really stole the momentum in the first 20 minutes of the singles matches and used it to our advantage to take the match."
The Lady Raiders won the doubles point for the 16th this season. Caroline Starck and Nikki Sanders moved to 15-3 in doubles play with an 8-2 victory at the No. 2 position. Elizabeth Ullathorne and Haley Fournier secured the point with an 8-3 win at No. 3. Kelsy Garland and Samantha Adams at the No. 1 completed the sweep in doubles winning 8-4. All three double teams are 8-2 in their last 10 matches.
Adams started the single matches with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 2. It is her 16th dual victory and 24th overall. Garland won her second-straight match, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 3 position to give Tech a 3-0 edge.
Sanders sealed the match for the Lady Raiders with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 6. It is her 16th victory at the No. 6 position and puts her in tie for second most victories at that position.
Tech will wrap up its season on the road at Baylor on Thurs., April 21 and the season finale versus Texas A&M on Fri., April 22.
