LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball program has announced Matt Eureste (Houston, Texas/St. Pius X HS) has signed a financial aid agreement with the Red Raiders to join the program for the 2011-2012 season.
Eureste, a 6-foot-1, 175 pound, left-handed hitting shortstop, was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 40th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft.
"Matt is a very good player with a lot of tools," third-year head coach Dan Spencer said. "He had a solid high school career and we are excited for him to join our program this fall."
During his senior season in 2011, Eureste batted .420 at St. Pius X High School and posted seven home runs while earning first team all-district and first team all-state honors.
He helped lead his team to a district title and 35-5 overall record in 2011. Eureste completed his prep career as a three-time all district and all-state selection.
Eureste also lettered three years on the gridiron and was a first team all-district selection his senior season.
