Gonzalo Escobar Wins Singles Title At DU Invitational

Gonzalo Escobar won the singles title at the University of Denver Invitational.

DENVER, Colo. - Texas Tech's Gonzalo Escobar recorded the highest total points to be named the overall singles champion of the University of Denver Invitational on Sunday.
Escobar held on for a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 win over New Mexico's Ben Dunbar. The Texas Tech senior went 3-0 in singles play at the event.
Gabriel Wanderley added a straight set win over UNM's Carl Ho, 6-4, 7-6, while Jeff Bryan cruised by New Mexico's Matthew Neeld, 6-2, 6-2. Vitor Manzini was not as lucky, as the Lobo's Phil Anderson won over the Red Raider, 6-2, 6-2. Wanderley, Bryan and Manzini each finished with 2-1 records in singles play at the event.
In doubles action, Wanderley and Bryan defeated Denver's Fabio Biasion and Max Krammer, 9-8, while Escobar and Manzini lost to the Pioneer duo of Enej Bonin and Jens Vorkefeld, 8-5.
Texas Tech returns to action at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., on Saturday.
