Montgomery, Ala. - The No. 23 Texas Tech Red Raiders demolished No. 49 Alabama 4-0, Saturday at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala.
Due to the weather on Friday the match against Alabama was moved to Saturday. No doubles matches were played Saturday unless needed because of time constraints.
Gonzalo Escobar got the win over Alabama's Jarryd Botha, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. At the No. 2 spot, Red Raider Raony Carvalho topped Ricky Doverspike, 7-5, 6-3. Raphael Pfister got the victory against Filippos Tsangaridis, 6-1, 7-5, at the No. 5 spot. Red Raider Gabriel Wanderley dropped Carlos Taborga 7-6, 6-1, at the No. 6 spot.
The Red Raiders will play their second match in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic against No. 21 Tennessee at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
