STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Emily Bledsoe sparked a four-run fifth inning with a two-out double, leading Texas Tech to a 4-1 victory over Stony Brook Wednesday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader at University Field.
After two quick outs to start the inning, Bledsoe helped Tech (20-7) erase an early one-run deficit with her double to left that brought in Ashley Hamada and then Mikey Kenney from first. Hamada opened the two-out rally with a bunt single and Kenney was hit by a pitch a few moments later.
Adriana Perez kept the momentum going with a single up the middle that plated Bledsoe. Logan Hall wrapped the inning with a double off the wall in left, scoring Sandy James from second.
In the circle, Brittany Talley (7-2) was near flawless early on, keeping the Seawolves (10-5) hitless until the fourth when Stony Brook posted its lone run of the game thanks to a Bernadette Tenuto sacrifice fly to right.
The run was the left-hander's only blemish as she tossed her fifth complete game of the season, allowing just four hits while striking out a season-high six batters as well.
Allison Cukrov (4-4) took the loss for Stony Brook, giving up four runs, two of which were earned in a complete game effort as well. She struck out five while surrendering seven hits and two walks.
The win, Tech's ninth-straight against non-conference opponents, marks the 100th for the Red Raiders under third-year head coach Shanon Hays. He is now 100-41 heading into the second game of the day.
