Zambon Paces Day One At Midland Racquet Club Collegiate

Francisco Zambon advanced in singles and doubles on Friday in Mindland.

MIDLAND, Texas - Francisco Zambon advanced to the third round in singles and teamed with Raphael Pfister to advance to the quarterfinals in doubles at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational at the Midland Racquet Club on Friday.
"I think it was good first day and we have some things we can improve on," said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. "Francisco played really well today and I am excited about that."
Zambon, a sophomore from Brazil, earned a first round bye and then ousted Texas-Arlington's Carlos Arbiza, 6-0, 6-4 to advance to the third round in singles. Manzini, who is seeded second in the event, also earned a first round bye and advanced after topping New Mexico's James Hignett, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
Gabriel Wanderley won his first round match over Abilene Christian's Borja Cortes, 6-4, 6-4, before falling to TCU's Arnau Dachs, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2. Raphael Pfister dropped Arkansas' Pete Thompson, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round, before No.1-seeded Matheus Pereira of Wichita State topped him in the second round, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles action, Pfister and Zambon topped Rice's Peter Frank and Leif Berger in the first round, 9-7, and Texas' Andrew Korinek and Nick Naumann, 8-5, in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals.
Manzini and Wanderley fell to Joey Swaysland and Jacoby Lewis of Texas, 8-6.
The Red Raiders return to action at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
