LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech Red Raider and Lady Raider cross country teams will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., this Saturday, Oct. 4, for the Chile Pepper Festival.
The 8,000 meter men's race will take place at 9:45 a.m., and the women's 5,000 meter race will immediately follow, scheduled for a 10:20 a.m. start.
Among the Red Raiders' competition at the 26th edition of the festival are Arkansas, Drake, Lamar and fellow Big 12 members Kansas State, TCU and Baylor.
"I am really looking for them to compete," Texas Tech head coach Jon Murray said. "We've been working pretty hard, and we scaled it back a little this week in an effort to keep ourselves fresh as we move toward the postseason. We're looking forward to competing against multiple Big 12 teams this weekend and seeing where we stack up. It's a fast course and a great place to run, so look for some good results."
The Red Raiders are coming off a fourth-place men's finish and fifth-place women's finish at the Texas A&M Invitational two weeks ago, a meet that featured the toughest competition Tech has faced to date.
On the men's side, the Red Raiders were led by Evans Tuitoek, who finished second overall, running the 6,000 meter course in 18:23.2. On the women's side, Tech was paced by 2013 All-Big 12 performer Sharlene Nickle, who took 11th place in the 4,000 meter race, with a time of 14:32.4
