Lily Mather was Tech’s lone representative on the women’s side at the NCAA Championships
IRVING, Texas – Lily Mather was named the Women's Big 12 Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.
Mather capped off a stellar junior season with a run into the NCAA Championships – her first career appearance. Prior to that race, she finished 24th in the NCAA Mountain regional – arguably the toughest region in the country – to auto qualify for the championships. Her postseason run started at the Big 12 Championships as she placed 29th.
In the classroom, Mather boasted a 4.0 GPA with a major in Kinesiology. Since the inception of the award in 2012, Mather becomes the first Red Raider from the men's or women's team, to claim the honor.
