Soares, Curry Shine In Doubles In College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - No. 41 Texas Tech may have found a new doubles tandem on Friday, as senior Felipe Soares and freshman Connor Curry teamed for a pair of wins at the 2014 Conference Challenge at Texas A&M's Mitchell Tennis Center.
The tandem of Soares and Curry dropped No. 11 Illinois' team of Aron Hiltzik and Jared Hiltzik, 8-7, in the first round, before upsetting LSU's nationally-ranked No. 14 tandem of Tam Trinh and Eric Perez, 8-6, in the second round. Soares is ranked No. 35 nationally when teamed with Hugo Dojas, who did not travel to the event.
Otherwise it was a tough day in doubles for the Red Raiders, who went 2-6 in the two rounds of doubles.
In singles, the Red Raiders picked up wins from freshman Hunter Holman and junior Evan Nix. Holman defeated LSU's Perez, 7-6, 6-2, while Nix held on for a 6-1, 7-5 win over Texas A&M's Max Montague.
Texas Tech returns to action at the Conference Challenge on Saturday at 10 a.m. for two rounds of singles competitions at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
