Jocelyn Caro became the first Lady Raider to earn All-Region honors since 2011 with her 14th-place finish on Friday.
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Jocelyn Caro finished in 14th place individually to lead the Lady Raider and Red Raider cross country teams at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships, in Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday.
Caro navigated the 6,000-meter course in 21:36.97, which was good enough for 14th place as an individual, earning All-Region honors-the first Lady Raider to do so since Rose Tanui, in 2011.
"It was a great race by Jocelyn," Texas Tech head coach Jon Murray said. "She stepped up at the right time. Her performance elevated our women's team performance. For her to make the All-Region squad is a great tribute to all the work she has put in to this season."
Caro finished in the top 15 in six of seven races this season, the only exception being the Big 12 Championships, where she took 26th.
Jasmine Torres and Sharlene Nickle were the second and third Lady Raiders to cross the finish line, finishing in 65th and 69th, respectively. The Lady Raiders took 12th as a team, with a score of 371.
On the men's side, Tech finished 14th as a team, with a score of 396. The Red Raiders were led by top-80 finishes from Evans Tuitoek (56th), who finished the 10,000-meter course in 31:39.90, and Nick Rivera (80th), who finished with a time of 32:36.10.
The Tech cross country athletes now turn their attention to the indoor track & field season, which begins Jan. 16-17, with the Texas Tech Open, in Lubbock, Texas.
