AMES, Iowa -- The Texas Tech volleyball team fell in the resumption of the protested fifth set from its Oct. 18 match against Iowa State, 18-16, on Wednesday afternoon, in Ames, Iowa.
The result drops Texas Tech from 15-12, 3-12, to 14-13, 2-13 on the season.
Due to a rule protest in the Oct. 18 match, the Big 12 Conference, in conjunction with the two member institution administrations, announced that the match would be replayed from the time of the error.
The match was resumed at the point of the protest in the fifth set - with the score Texas Tech 8, Iowa State 5 with ISU serving. The NCAA Rules Committee determined that ISU's protest of a misapplication of a rule in the fifth set was valid and was upheld.
From that point, in similar fashion to the match on Oct. 18, Iowa State went on a huge 7-2 run to take a 12-10 lead, forcing a Tech timeout. But the Red Raiders, just as they did in the previous match, fought back and eventually tied the match at 13. However, this time, Tech was unable to finish the job as Iowa State took the set, 18-16.
Texas Tech will be back in action tonight, playing its originally scheduled match against the Cyclones, with first serve scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
