IRVING, Texas -- Texas Tech volleyball's Rachel Brummitt, Breeann David and Lauren Douglass have been named All-Big 12 Honorable Mentions, the conference office announced on Monday.
Tech's three selections to the honorable mentions list, which functions as a second team, are the second most single-season all-conference selections in program history, trailing only the 1990 Red Raiders, who landed four players on All-Southwest Conference teams.
The three All-Big 12 selections are the most in Tech's history as a member of the conference.
"We as a staff were very pleased to see these great Tech athletes earn this recognition from coaches within our conference," Texas Tech head coach Don Flora said. "Each athlete has put in the hard work necessary to earn these accolades. This is another example of the direction and growth of this program."
Brummitt ranked second in the Big 12 in digs per set (4.86) and third in total digs (510). Brummitt recorded 20 digs or more in 12 of Tech's matches, and eclipsed 30 twice, including a 39-dig performance in a four-set match against Air Force, which was a Big 12 record. She was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2014, giving her five such awards in her career, the most in Tech history.
Brummitt leaves Tech as the program's all-time leader in digs, amassing 1,624 in just three seasons. She was also the first Red Raider to record at least 500 digs in three different seasons. Her three seasons in a Tech uniform have produced the three highest single-season dig totals in program history.
David ranked eighth in the Big 12 in both points per set (3.58), and kills per set (3.06). She reached double-digit kills 12 times in 2014, including a career high-tying 23 in a four-set win over TCU. David became the ninth player in program history to record 1,000 kills and will leave Lubbock in eighth place on the Tech all-time list for kills, with 1,011.
Douglass burst on to the scene early for Tech, winning tournament MVP awards at two of Tech's first four tournaments. She was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1, becoming the first Red Raider in program history to win the award. She was also named Big 12 Co-Rookie of the week on Sept. 22. Douglass ranked second on the team in kills, with 272. She finished the year ranked ninth in the Big 12 in hitting percentage, at .303, but had more kills and swings than anyone else in the top 10.
All three athletes have been nominated for American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region awards, which will be revealed Dec. 9.
