Lady Raider Golf Signs Three to New Class
December 01, 2014 | Women's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team and head coach JoJo Robertson have signed three players to the 2014 fall signing class.
Cara Barker, Mami Yamamoto and Emma Ballard all signed national letters of intent to play golf at Texas Tech next year.
"I am very excited to officially welcome Cara, Emma, and Mami to our program," Robertson said. "These three players have everything that we are looking for to keep moving our program forward. I am confident that all three will have a big impact next year and I am looking forward to having them on campus."
Barker comes to Tech from Coronado High School in Long Beach, Calif., where she was named the team's most valuable player this past season. She finished second in the Long Beach Women's Golf Championship with a final round 65 - a career-best for her.
She was a member of the United States Junior National Golf Team that competed at St. Andrews against the Scottish Golf Union, tying them at eight points apiece.
Yamamoto has found plenty of recent success on the U.S. Junior Tour and American Junior Golf Tour (AJGA) this past year. She's had five top 10 finishes and twice finished third. She was third at the Bishops Gate Junior Classic at Centennial with rounds of 69, 75 and 70, and then third at the FCWT at Mission Inn.
Ballard is one of the top golfer at Kingwood High School near Houston but made a name for herself this past year by winning the first annual Shell Houston Open Junior Championship. She shot 69-74 for a 1-under par 143 total.
She also won the Tyler Rose Championship on the Texas Junior Golf Tour and has seven top 10 finishes this year. Ballard was sixth at the AJGA Aaron's/Bob Estes Abilene Junior and ninth at the Texas State Junior Championship with a low round of 69.
