LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball team returns to United Supermarkets Arena on Friday at 5:30 p.m. to take on Nicholls in the second game on the opening day of the Athletes in Action Classic.
Tech (6-2) will play three games over the next three days against Nicholls (3-3), UTSA (4-3) and Houston (3-5). There will be a total of six games played with the first game between UTSA and Houston tipping off at 3:00 p.m., Friday. The first games each day will be played at noon and 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
The Lady Raiders put their six-game home winning streak to the test just five days after beating Texas-Pan American, 50-42. Freshman forward Dayo Olabode led the Lady Raiders with 19 points and nine rebounds and earned Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week honors on Monday for her performance. She became the first Tech freshman to earn the award since Kierra Mallard did so twice in 2009.
Nicholls comes into Friday's matchup having gone 1-1 in their last two games. The Colonels are 1-3 overall on the road this season. This will be only the second meeting between the two schools. The two teams first played each other on Nov. 24, 2012.
