Texas Tech has been national ranked for 10 consecutive weeks, which spans the entire regular season
April 22, 2014
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech received its highest ranking of the season at No. 21 by the USA Today Coaches' poll - its highest ranking since 2005 - while also moving up to No. 23 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association on Monday.
The Red Raiders (32-12, 8-7 Big 12) have now been ranked 10 consecutive weeks - spanning the entire regular season. Tech moves up in both polls after a perfect 4-0 record last week with a midweek win over Dallas Baptist and sweeping a three-game series over Prairie View A&M.
Tech's No. 21 ranking in the USA Today Coaches' poll is its highest national ranking since also being tabbed 21st in the Coaches poll on Mar. 7, 2005. The Red Raiders have been ranked in the top-25 by the Coaches' six weeks this season, including six of the last seven weeks.
The Red Raiders are among the nation's top 30 teams for the 10th straight week according to the NCBWA while checking in at No. 23 - two spots up from last week and its highest ranking by the publication this season.
Tech has been ranked every week of the regular season (Feb. 17-Apr. 21) in the NCBWA poll and received a total of 19 rankings in three of the four major polls, including three rankings by Collegiate Baseball, six by the USA Today Coaches poll and all 10 weeks in the NCBWA poll. The only major poll Tech has yet to make an appearance in this season is Baseball America, where Tech last received a ranking in 2005 (Mar. 21 - No. 21).
Texas Tech dropped its first midweek game this week on Monday, 4-3, at No. 24 New Mexico. The Red Raiders will be back in action on Tuesday taking on No. 15 TCU (26-13) in Abilene, Texas, for a midweek, neutral site non-conference match up. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Crutcher Scott Field - home of Abilene Christian University.
The matchup with TCU marks the first time in school history that Tech has played a league opponent in a non-conference game.
