LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Texas Tech women's golf begins its fall schedule on Monday at the Marilynn Smith / Sunflower Invitational at Alvamar Golf Course.
This is the first of five fall tournaments on tap for Texas Tech. And with a new season comes a completely different look to the lineup for JoJo Robertson's squad.
"I think that's something great about this year is we are a much deeper team," she said. "We have a nice mix of young talent and experienced veterans to help make a more complete team than how we were this time last season."
Senior Stephanie Bertelsen will be the only Lady Raider in this week's lineup that's actually played for Tech in a collegiate tournament before Monday. Senior transfer Mariah Montoya, junior transfers Gennai Goodwin Sarah Brown along with freshman Madelyn Davis will join Bertelsen as the top five this week. Freshman Gabby Barker will play her first collegiate tournament as an individual.
Bertelsen (504 holes, 75.5 average) was the third-lowest scorer on the team last season behind Kimmy Hill (74.3) and Elin Arvidsson (75.1). She finished as the team's lowest scorer in 11th place (70-76-75--221) at the Big 12 Conference Championship in the spring before winning the Danish Matchplay Championship in Denmark this summer.
"I think Steph really kind of came in to her own this last spring and obviously had a very successful summer," Robertson said. "So I expect we will continue to see big things from her this year."
Tech will tee off on holes one through five alongside Kansas and Kansas State beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Lady Raiders will finish up the tournament on Tuesday after 36 holes.
