LUBBOCK, Texas - Head coach Don Flora and the Texas Tech volleyball coaching staff opened the fall early signing period by inking Chandler Atwood to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday.
"Chandler comes to Texas Tech volleyball at a great time to add her physical skill set and as importantly, her passion and love for the game," Flora said. "We believe Chandler will add a quality level of being a great teammate and someone who will not shy away from taking big swings in crunch time."
Atwood, a 6-0, outside hitter from Allen, Texas, posted 382 kills on a hitting clip of .309 in her senior season for Allen High School. She helped the Eagles to the second round of the 2015 UIL State Volleyball Championships, leading the team with 16 kills in each of the two matches. In the opening round of the tournament, she put together a hitting percentage of .419 in the 3-0 win over Keller.
She wrapped up her high school career with 1,087 kills, as well as 366 digs and 211 blocks.
"Another key component is that Chandler will fit the type of culture we want to continue to build here at Texas Tech," Flora added. "It has been great to see her skill development over the past couple of years."
During her time at Allen, she earned Texas Girls Coaches Association Girls Volleyball 6A All-State honors in 2014. She also racked up All-District accolades in 2012, 2013 and 2014. For her work in the classroom, she received an Academic All-District award in 2014.
Atwood plans to major in sports marketing when she arrives in Lubbock in the summer.
"We look forward to Chandler's arrival this summer and having her as a part of the Red Raider volleyball family," Flora said.
The Red Raiders expect to finalize the 2016 class over the course of National Signing Period.
