LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech men's tennis head coach Brett Masi has received a National Letter of Intent and Athletic Scholarship Agreement from Augusto Stodart announced Wednesday as part of the NCAA signing period.
"It's a huge pickup for our program to land a player of Augusto's caliber," Masi said. "He is a great player and even better individual. Augusto will represent Texas Tech well and make our program even tougher to contend with in the years to come. Coach Wilson did an excellent job during the recruitment of Augusto, and we can't wait for him to get here in January."
Stodart, a 6-0 right-hander from Pergamino, Argentina, will join the Red Raiders as a freshman in January. He ranks third in juniors in his age group and has captured a pair of grade 2 ITF Junior Tournament titles.
Stodart is coached by world class doubles player and current Argentina Davis Cup assistant coach Mariano Hood in Buenos Aires. He possesses a 1,700 ATP world ranking highlighted by a win over Andre Mielo who is ranked 790 and also was recruited by TCU.
"When the opportunity came to go to Texas Tech, I didn't doubt it for a second," Stodart said. "I'm really excited to get on the team, and I hope we can achieve big things. I chose to come to Texas Tech because I believe in the objectives they have, and I want to give my best to help the team."
