NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Texas Tech sophomore Jocelyn Caro, along with the Tech men's and women's cross country teams as a whole, received U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors, on Wednesday.
This award caps what was a sensational season for Caro. She won her first two races of the season, nearly took All-Big 12 honors with a 26th-place finish at the Big 12 Championships and finished 14th at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships, becoming the first Lady Raider to earn All-Region honors since 2011.
Caro was among 153 women in Division I who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and have finished in the top 25 finishers (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.
Overall, this was the first time the women have won the award since 2013, and the first time since 2012 for the men. The last time both squads were honored in the same year was 2011. The requirement to be honored as a team, was to carry a combined GPA of 3.0 or better, and field a full squad at the regional meet.
"This is a great honor and testament to the amount of work both teams do in the classroom," Texas Tech head cross country coach Jon Murray said. "Both the men's and women's team do a wonderful job representing Texas Tech on and off the course."
