Quinn Carpenter Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

Quinn Carpenter was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday after batting .556 (5-for-9) with three RBI in Texas Tech's first Big 12 series victory of the season last weekend against Kansas.

LUBBOCK, Texas - For the second consecutive week, the Texas Tech baseball program has had the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week as junior outfielder Quinn Carpenter (Goshen, N.Y.) is this week's selection, the league office announced this afternoon.
Last week junior infielder Cory Raley earned the honor and Carpenter's selection marks the fourth Red Raider this season to earn a Big 12 weekly honor as first baseman Eric Gutierrez (Player of the Week) and left-handed pitcher Cameron Smith (Pitcher of the Week) have also earned weekly honors.
Carpenter is the 11th overall selection from Tech to receive the honor which began in 2011.
Carpenter led Tech to its series win over Kansas batting .556 (5-for-9) with a double, triple, three RBI, .636 on-base percentage and .889 slugging percentage. He started the KU series going 3-for-4 with a run, triple and two RBI as the only Red Raider with a multi-hit game.
He led Tech to its first of two wins in the series going 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and two hit-by-pitch in game two of the series. He reached base safely in six consecutive plate appearances and in seven of his first eight plate appearances in the series.
He is batting .391 with 11 runs, four doubles, a triple, home run and 11 RBI this season with a .463 on-base percentage and .587 slugging percentage.
Carpenter and the Red Raiders will play their first midweek road game of the season on Tuesday, March 31 at New Mexico for a 3 p.m. CT first pitch at Lobo Field.
