LUBBOCK, Texas -- Since Kenna Kilgo arrived at Texas Tech, the Lady Raiders have only lost four times at home. Sunday was no different as No. 15 Texas Tech blanked Iowa State, 4-0, on Senior Day at McLeod Tennis Center.
The Red Raiders are now 38-4 (90.5 percent) at home over the last four years with Kilgo in the lineup. With the win, Texas Tech is 17-4 overall and 7-1 in the Big 12, while Iowa State falls to 7-13 overall and 2-6 in league play. The Lady Raiders hold a half-game lead over No. 7 Baylor (20-6, 6-1 Big 12) in the Big 12 standings heading into the final week of league play.
"I was proud of the effort today, but it was not as clean and as sharp as it was on Friday against West Virginia," said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. "Maybe it was the emotion of senior day. I thought Sabrina (Federici) and Lynn (Kiro) really played well. But we cannot let teams hang around. That is something that will come back to get us in the tournament."
The No. 44 tandem of Kilgo and Gabriela Talaba came out on fire and rolled to a 6-1 win over Iowa State's Samantha Budai and Ksnia Pronina at No. 1.
Sarah Dvorak and Katelyn Jackson followed close behind with a 6-3 win over Iowa State's Alejandra Galvis and Caroline Andersen to secure the doubles point.
No. 90 Lynn Kiro and Sabrina Federici were leading 5-2 when their match was abandoned against ISU's Meghan Cassens and Ana Gasparovic.
Federici then powered past Andersen, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 for her 20th win of the season. No. 92 Dvorak followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory just moments later for her team-best 23rd win of the season and Texas Tech had a 3-0 lead.
Kiro closed out the win with a solid 6-2, 6-3 win over Natalie Phippen at No. 4 and Texas Tech improved to a school-record 12-1 at home this season.
The Lady Raiders will close out the regular season at No. 19 TCU next Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
