Four Red Raiders Named Academic All-Big 12

Four Red Raiders earned Academic All-Big 12 honors -- Hugo Dojas, Francisco Zambon, Jolan Cailleau and Felipe Soares.

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech landed four players in the Academic All-Big 12 Tennis Team released on Tuesday by conference officials.
Senior Francisco Zambon, junior Felipe Soares and sophomore Jolan Cailleau each earned first team honors, while junior Hugo Dojas was named to the second team. For head coach Tim Siegel, he has now garnered 59 Academic All-Big 12 honors since the league's inception in 1997, including 39 first team honorees.
For Zambon, the finance major from Campinas, Brazil, has now been selected to the Academic All-Big 12 first team for a third straight year. Zambon, who is a two-time Big 12 position champion, was also named a 2014 ITA Scholar-Athlete. He is only the sixth Red Raider in the Big 12 era to earn first team honors for three straight seasons, joining Borut Martincevic (1999-01), Michael Innerebner (2003-05), Bojan Szumanski (2006-08), Michael Breler (2007-09), Vitor Manzini (2011-13) and Raphael Pfister (2011-13).
Soares, a junior business major from Santos, Brazil, is making his first appearance on the list. Soares is currently ranked No. 32 nationally in singles and No. 23 in doubles with Dojas. He has compiled a 20-13 record in singles and a 17-7 mark in doubles. Last season, he earned first team All-Big 12 honors in singles and advanced to the NCAA Individual Championships.
Cailleau, an international business major from Chièvres, Belgium, currently leads the team in singles wins with 24. Cailleau is currently ranked No. 114 nationally in singles. He has been ranked in the ITA Top 125 for 15 consecutive matches.
Dojas, a business major from Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, was named to the second team. Dojas, who is 16-8 in singles on the season, is currently ranked No. 23 in doubles with Soares. Dojas and Soares have teamed to go 14-7 in doubles this season.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
