Carpenter Named to Olerud Watch List

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior right-handed pitcher/outfielder Quinn Carpenter (Goshen, N.Y.) is one of 36 multi-position players in the nation named to the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List, the College Baseball Hall of Fame announced this morning.
Carpenter is the first Red Raider named to the Olerud Watch List since 2011 (OF/RHP David Paiz). Carpenter is one of three players from the Big 12 that were named to the award watch list. The award is given to the nation's top player both on the mound and at the plate.
Carpenter is one of the team's leading hitters batting .315 (23-for-73) with 15 runs scored, six doubles, a triple, three home runs, 18 RBI and a .548 slugging percentage.
Carpenter is batting .372 with runners on base and is among team leaders with eight two-out RBI.
He is also among team leaders in starts and appearances with seven outings - four starts, three in the midweek - with 15.1 innings pitched and 11 strikeouts.
Carpenter has been selected twice in the Major League Baseball Draft while being taken in 2014 by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 17th round following his second season at Iowa Western Community College. Carpenter was also an MLB Draft pick in 2012 out of high school in the 27th round by the Boston Red Sox.
