LUBBOCK, Texas - Clark Lammert and Bradley Marquez were named Male Student-Athlete of the Year Wednesday while Derryn Hebert garnered Female Student-Athlete of the Year honors as part of the 2015 TECHspy Awards.
The TECHspys, an annual event hosted by the athletics academic services department, were originally scheduled to be held Monday evening at Allan Theatre. Due to the weather conditions that night, the award winners were presented Wednesday at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion.
In addition to be honored as the Co-Male Student-Athlete of the Year, Lammert also received the Good Citizen Award as well as the Red Raider Congeniality Award. Lammert shared the Good Citizen Award with Kelsi Baker.
The Red Raider soccer team was named the Women's Team of the Year after its first-ever trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championship. The Tech baseball squad, meanwhile, was named the Male Team of the Year after a historic run to the College World Series last summer.
The head coaches of both of those teams - Tom Stone (soccer) and Tim Tadlock (baseball) - both took home Women's and Men's Coach of the Year honors as well. Janine Beckie (soccer) and Kennedy Kithuka (track and field) were also both honored as the Female and Male TECHspy winners.
The TECHspy awards were voted on by participating student-athletes, coaches and athletic department staff while the academic awards were chosen by the Marsha Sharp Center staff, senior staff, athletic council and various faculty.
