LUBBOCK, Texas - The word success has always found itself synonymous with the Texas Tech Men's Tennis program.
The 2015 season was no different.
For the ninth time in the last 11 years, the Red Raiders earned an invite to the Big Dance where they advanced into the second round before falling to No. 16 UCLA. Texas Tech finished the year 19-9, marking just the fifth time in 40 years the program has reached as many wins.
Returning five from the 2015 starting lineup, Texas Tech will carry its second-highest final ranking, 19th in the country, into the offseason. All six teams in the Big 12 Conference not only made the national tournament but also finished the season ranked in the top 30, with four of the six in the top 10.
Homecourt advantage at the McLeod Tennis Center has never been stronger as the Red Raiders finished second in the nation in attendance en route to only dropping one match at home all season long.
Junior Felipe Soares became the first in Tech history to advance into the quarterfinals of the singles bracket. The Brazilian native would go on to become the third Red Raider to pick up All-America honors and just the second to earn All-America honors in both singles and doubles in the same season. Soares, alongside his teammate Hugo Dojas, went on to finish National Runner-Up in the NCAA Doubles Championship after falling to Texas in the title match in three sets.
Dojas and Soares join Raony Carvalho and Gonzalo Escobar as the only All-Americans in Texas Tech history. The junior duo will anchor the Red Raiders in 2016 as head coach Tim Siegel returns five players including talented freshmen Alex Sendegeya and Connor Curry as well as sophomore Jolan Cailleau.
