Four Red Raiders Named To USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams

Gionna Jackson was one of four Red Raiders to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Texas Tech track & field had four athletes named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team.
Freshman Trey Culver was the Tech selection on the men's side. The psychology major capped his first season in a Tech uniform with a second team All-American performance in the high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
On the women's side, Hannah Carson, Gionna Jackson and Montene Speight were named to the All-Academic team. All three put together great seasons, which culminated in All-American outdoor performances. Speight has already won the NCAA Elite 89 award and was named Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, among other honors.
Carson, the NCAA javelin runner-up and Big 12 Female Performer of the Year, represented Team USA at the 2015 Pan Am games in Toronto this morning, taking eighth in the javelin (51.93m/170-4).
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
