No. 18 Texas Tech Secures 1-1 Draw at Arizona

The 18th- ranked Red Raiders secured a 1-1 draw against the undefeated Arizona Wildcats at Mulachy Stadium on Friday night.
"It was a heavy weight bout," said head coach Tom Stone. "So much chaos created by their long throw and set pieces, but I don't think we gave up much other than those plays. Crabby scored a great goal for us and the result was there for us for the taking. It was 90 seconds away and we gave up a throw and they finally converted. I thought we deserved better, but that's the game and we should have closed it out."
The Wildcats came out strong securing the first four shots of the game. Texas Tech finally began to counter recording their first shot in the 10th minute of the match.
The Red Raiders broke onto the scoreboard in the 10th minute when freshman Maddy Crabtree gathered a pass from Alli Murphy and recorded her second goal of the 2015 season.
"Crabby is a goal scorer," added Stone. "It's exciting to see her get another goal for us."
The Wildcats would record four more shots in the first half, but would not convert leaving Texas Tech with a 1-0 lead at the half.
In the second half of play, Arizona came out swinging once again firing a shot on goal in just 16 seconds into the second half forcing Lauren Watson to make her third save of the match.
"Watson was good all night," said Stone. "She was good on all of the long service and balls thrown in from 40 yards away. She sorted most of it out without issue."
Watson and the rest of the defensive efforts were needed as the Wildcats would fire seven shots in the second half with only one shot from Arizona defender Ariz Skadsen to tie the match at the 88:10 mark forcing the Red Raiders into their second overtime match in a row.
The final twenty minutes would be played out with only three shots attempts, but no score ending the match at one all.
The tie in Friday's match moved the all-time record against the Wildcats to 1-1-2 in the Tom Stone era and moved the Red Raiders to 5-2-1 record against teams from the Pac-12 in that span. The goal by Arizona in tonight's match also marked the first goal by a Pac-12 team against the Red Raiders since 2010.
The Red Raiders will return to action on Sunday as they face No. 21 Arizona State to close out the Cats Classic. The match against the Sun Devils is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT and will be televised on Pac-12 Arizona.
