The Texas Tech Lady Raiders finished in eighth place Tuesday at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic hosted by Colorado State University at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo. In their first tournament in the 2015-16 season.
"We didn't receive the team finish that we would have liked to see," said head coach JoJo Robertson. "There was a lot to learn from this week. I'm pleased with the play of our freshman. We have a lot to look forward to this fall and we will keep improving each week."
The Lady Raiders did, however, claim the event's individual title as senior Sarah Brown recorded a total score of 212 (-4) to finish four strokes ahead of San Jose State's Elizabeth Schultz and Fresno State's Hannah Sodersten who tied for second place.
"It was great to see Sarah win," added Robertson. "She has been a strong player for us and works hard every day. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the first of many great tournaments for her this year."
Brown, the Mt. Pleasant, Texas native, carded her career best finish at the Ptarmigan Classic, besting her previous finish of seventh from the 2014 Jim West Challenge. Her first round score of 69 was just three shots off from her best 18 hole performance of 66.
As a team, the Lady Raiders finished with a team score of 895 (+31) and finished just behind tournament host Colorado State who carded a three day total of 894. BYU finished first at the event with a team score of 876 (+8).
The Lady Raiders will return to the course on October 4-6 when they head to Boerne, Texas to compete in the Jim West Challenge.
