SKILLMAN, N.J. -- The Texas Tech men's tennis team moved up one slot to No. 14 in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings announced Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Red Raiders (8-0) secured a pair of neutral site wins over SEC schools in then No. 17 Ole Miss and then No. 21 Florida during the ITA Kickoff weekend. The wins enabled Texas Tech to claim a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships. Tech is one of six schools to have both its men's and women's programs qualify for the event joining Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Virginia.
The Red Raiders are one of five Big 12 teams ranked among the ITA's Top 25 which include Oklahoma (2), TCU (3), Baylor (14) and Oklahoma State (25). The five Big 12 schools are tied for the most by a single conference inside the ITA's Top 25 with the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The ITA singles and doubles rankings will remain the same until Feb. 10. Felipe Soares and Hugo Dojas are the nation's No. 2 doubles tandem. Soares also checks in at the No. 8 spot, and Alex Sendegeya is ranked No. 33 in singles.
Texas Tech returns to action versus No. 75 Clemson on Friday with first serve set for 2 p.m. CT at the McLeod Tennis Center. Admission is free to all home matches, and live stats will be available for the Clemson match at www.TexasTech.StatBroadcast.com.
