LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech track & field head coach Wes Kittley announced Wednesday the home meets for the 2016 indoor season have been canceled.
The Red Raiders were scheduled to host three collegiate meets, the first on Jan. 15-16, the Lone Star Conference Championships and a high school open at the Athletic Training Center (ATC). On Thursday, Dec. 31, the roof of the ATC deflated due to Winter Storm Goliath and the decision was made by Texas Tech officials to cancel all indoor meets scheduled for the 2016 season.
"Most importantly, we are thankful there were no injuries after the deflation of the roof of the Athletic Training Center," Kittley said. "The ATC has been a fantastic facility for our program and we are disappointed we will not be able to host meets this indoor season. At the same time, we are excited for what lies ahead for our program, not only this season, but also with the Sports Performance Center and returning to host events in the future."
Tech will now open its indoor campaign at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville on Friday, Jan. 15. The Red Raiders will also travel to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Team Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 30.
