Jocelyn Caro and Miguel Bautista named Big 12 Runner of the Week and Co-Runner of the week due to their showing on the west coast
LUBBOCK, Texas – Today the Big 12 Conference announced that Texas Tech Cross Country's Jocelyn Caro and Miguel Bautista were named Big 12 Runner and Co-Runner of the Week. Â
Caro, a senior El Paso native, has been a consistent front-runner for the Red Raiders earning a new personal-best of 19:47.9 in the 6k at Baylands Park on Saturday, Oct. 15. Â Caro has finished in the top-10 in four straight meets with the last being a second-place overall yet a first-place in attached collegiate runners.
"What a nice honor for an outstanding performance by Jocelyn," said Head Coach Jon Murray. "Jocelyn has been a steady leader for our team and this recognition is an honor to her hard work and dedication."
This is the second Big 12 honor Bautista has earned in the last three weeks. Bautista came through with a second-place finish in Sunnyvale this past weekend giving him his second team leading finish for Texas Tech. The race also marked Bautista's fourth-straight top-three finish this season pacing a personal-best of 23:32.5.
"Miguel continues to impress me, the way he is racing is with confidence and experience of an older competitor. He is being smart in everything he does and this honor is due him."
Texas Tech will wrap-up the regular season with the Big 12 Championship next weekend, Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock with the men's 8k to begin at 11 a.m. and the women's 6k at 10 a.m.
