Cailleau and Sendegeya Singles Play Highlight Texas Tech Men's Tennis on Day Two of the ITA Texas Regionals
October 23, 2016 | Men's Tennis
The Red Raiders will have two singles players and a doubles team in competition on Sunday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Jolan Cailleau and Alex Sendegeya of the Texas Tech men's tennis team turned in a pair of straight set singles victories to secure their spots in the quarterfinals of the ITA Texas Regionals presented by Oracle Saturday at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center on the TCU campus.
Cailleau moved his fall record to 8-2 and claimed a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win over Lamar's Jeandre Hoogenboezem in the Round of 32. He added a 6-2, 6-3 triumph against Max Lunkin of Texas A&M to cap the day and has dropped only eight games during his three victories at the ITA Texas Regionals.
Sendegeya captured identical 7-6, 6-1 wins over John Mee of Texas and Rice's Jamie Malik to punch his ticket to the quarterfinal round. He teamed with doubles partner Bjorn Thomson for a pair of victories in doubles. The event's top seed defeated Abilene Christian's Henry Adams and Nicholas Agritelley by an 8-5 score and edged Christian Sigsgaard and Julian Zlobinsky of Texas in a tiebreaker to advance to the semifinals.
"We saw some better things today, and I thought our guys competed better as a group," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "We have some chances tomorrow with Alex and Bjorn in the doubles semifinals along with Alex and Jolan in the singles quarterfinals. Hopefully, we can take care of our opportunities and advance to the championship round."
The four-day event continues with two rounds of singles and one round of doubles on Sunday. The singles and doubles champions qualify for the ITA National Indoors from November 3-6 in Flushing Meadows, New York.
