October 23, 2016 | Men's Tennis
Jolan Cailleau will play for a spot in the ITA National Indoors on Monday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Jolan Cailleau of the Texas Tech's men's tennis team dialed up two singles wins over Big 12 opponents to earn a spot in the championship match of the ITA Texas Regionals presented by Oracle Sunday at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center on the TCU campus.
Cailleau registered a 6-4, 6-4 victory over TCU's Trevor Johnson during the quarterfinals before he battled back for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback win against Yuya Ito of Texas in the semifinal round. The Belgium native has posted a 10-2 fall record and will face Texas A&M's Arthur Rinderknech, the event's top seed, in the final.
Rinderknech edged out Alex Sendegeya by a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 margin in his quarterfinal matchup. In the doubles semifinals, Sendegeya and Bjorn Thomson were handed a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) defeat by Rinderknech and Max Lunkin of A&M.
"We competed much better today and have competed much better as this tournament has gone on," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "We are starting to click and starting to get better as a whole. It's been great tournament for Jolan. I've been very pleased with how he is playing and the consistent level he's playing at. Jolan has made a good jump the last two weeks, and hopefully he can play another great match tomorrow."
Bjorn Thomson tucked away a pair of straight-set victories in singles consolation action. He dropped a combined six games during his victories against SMU's Markus Kerner and UTA's Jhonatan Gonzalez.
The four-day event wraps up with its championship matches on Monday. The singles and doubles champions qualify for the ITA National Indoors from November 3-6 in Flushing Meadows, New York.
