GAMEDAY STORYLINES
- Texas Tech and TCU will be meeting for the 59th time in program history Saturday afternoon. The Red Raiders, who have lost each of the past two games against the Horned Frogs, lead the all-time series with a 30-25-3 advantage. The two teams have split the four contests since TCU joined the Big 12 Conference prior to the 2012 season.
- The Red Raiders narrowly fell to No. 16 Oklahoma, 66-59, last weekend after both teams each recorded 854 yards of total offense. The 1,708 combined yards of total offense snapped the NCAA FBS record of 1,640 yards that was previously set in 2001 by San Jose State and Nevada.
- Patrick Mahomes II put his name in the NCAA FBS record book against the Sooners as the junior completed 52-of-88 passes for 734 yards and five touchdowns. In addition, he also rushed 12 times for 85 yards and two touchdowns. His 810 yards of total offense snapped the NCAA FBS record of 751 yards that was set by Washington State's Connor Halliday versus California in 2014.
- Texas Tech has scored 50 or more points in five of its seven games this season as the Red Raiders are averaging 50.3 points per game which ranks second nationally and leads the Big 12 Conference. Tech has posted at least 50 points 13 times during head coach Kliff Kingsbury's tenure.
- Texas Tech boasts one of the most high-octane offenses in the country this season as the Red Raiders lead the nation in total offense (640.3 yards per game), passing offense (542.7 yards per game), first downs offense (230) as well as third-down conversion percentage (59.3 percent).Â
- Texas Tech sophomore receiver Jonathan Giles is closing in on the 1,000-yard mark with five games still remaining as he enters Saturday's game with 917 receiving yards. He needs 182 yards to enter the top 10 in single-season school history where he would match Wes Welker's total from the 2003 season. Giles' 917 receiving yards are the most for a Red Raider through seven games since Michael Crabtree had 1,244 during the same span in 2007.
- Texas Tech converted 20 of its 25 third-down attempts against Oklahoma which is six more than any other FBS team this season. In fact, Tech is the most successful program in the country when it comes to third-down conversions this year as the Red Raiders have been successful in 59 percent of their attempts.
