Men’s Tennis Completes Undefeated Opening Day at Socal Intercollegiates

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Jackson Cobb and Carlos DiLaura of the Texas Tech men's tennis team picked up a trio of qualifying wins to earn a spot in the singles main draw to open the SoCal Intercollegiates Thursday at Marks Stadium on the University of Southern Cal campus.
Cobb and DiLaura join Connor Curry, Alex Sendegeya, Bjorn Thomson to give the Red Raiders five players in the 32-player singles main draw which begins Friday.
Cobb turned the tables on USC's David Lester and captured a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) comeback win. He also added an effective and efficient 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Nicholas Baez of Pepperdine.
After earning a first-round bye, DiLaura dismissed Azusa Pacific's Shepherd Newcomb by a 6-2, 7-5 decision to solidify his main draw slot.
"A great start to the tournament for our team," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "Jackson played well today and really executed his game plan. He's had a lot of close matches and getting that first one really helped his confidence. He's been working hard, and I'm happy that he finally saw some success. Carlos took care of business, and he will be ready for the next round tomorrow. I'm glad to see all five guys in the main draw. It will be a busy day for the Red Raiders."
