Watson, Denesik Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

Both Lauren Watson & Brooke Denesik earned All-District honors with 4.00 GPAs.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Two Texas Tech soccer student-athletes were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2016-17 Soccer Teams, it was announced today.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Watson and sophomore defender Brooke Denesik received the accolade in District 7 of NCAA Division I members. Both Red Raiders were nominated to the first team with 4.00 grade point averages, making Tech the only school in the district with multiple winners with perfect GPAs.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA at her current institution, must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position and is only eligible until she has completed one full calendar year at her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Watson & Denesik return to the field Friday, Oct. 28, as the Red Raiders host No. 24 Oklahoma at 7 p.m. at the John Walker Soccer Complex in the final match of the regular season. Watson and three other Tech seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
