GAMEDAY STORYLINES
- It will be Senior Day at Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday as Texas Tech will honor its 13 seniors in a pregame ceremony. Saturday will also be Texas Tech's annual "Celebrate America Game" which will be highlighted by a pregame flyover.
- The Red Raiders will play their final home game in front of a capacity crowd as Texas Tech has already announced a sellout for Saturday's game. This will be Texas Tech's second sellout this season and its fourth crowd of 60,000 or more fans.
- Texas Tech put together possibly its best defensive performance of the season last weekend in a 27-24 double-overtime victory at TCU. The win, Tech's first in overtime under head coach Kliff Kingsbury, pushed the Red Raiders back to .500 for the season with four games still to play. Tech will play its next three games after this weekend either on the road or at a neutral site.Â
- The Red Raider defense put together possibly its best performance of the season against TCU as Texas Tech held the Horned Frogs to 24 points and 418 yards of total offense. Most impressively, the Red Raiders allowed just one touchdown over the final 49:40 of regulation. The lone touchdown came on a TCU drive that started at the Tech 15-yard line.
- One of the most impressive aspects of Texas Tech's win over TCU was the fact the Red Raiders had just one penalty which came with 11:14 remaining in the fourth quarter. It matched the Tech single-game record for fewest penalties that was previously set in 1988 against Arkansas, 1991 versus Rice and in 1992 against Texas A&M. Tech only committed five penalty yards against Texas A&M and Arkansas as well.
- Texas Tech will look for a repeat performance from its win last year against the Longhorns as the Red Raiders outlasted Texas, 48-45, in Austin. It marked Tech's first road win over its in-state rival since the 1997 season. Tech has not defeated the Longhorns in back-to-back seasons since the 1997-98 campaigns. Despite last year's win, Texas controls a 49-16 all-time lead in the series, which includes a 19-10 advantage in games played in Lubbock.
- Texas Tech boasts one of the most high-octane offenses in the country this season as the Red Raiders lead the nation in passing offense (500.6 yards per game), first downs offense (209) as well as third-down conversion percentage (57.8 percent) and rank second for scoring offense (47.4 points per game) and total offense (600.3 yards per game).
