Bautista Named Big 12 Runner of the Week

Junior Miguel Bautista earns the weekly award following his strong showing at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Junior Miguel Bautista was named the Big 12 Runner of the week today, which is owed to his performance at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville on Saturday, Oct. 1. Â
This is the first Runner of the Week award Bautista has received in his career at Texas Tech.
 Bautista secured a third-place finish in the men's 8K finishing with a personal-best of 23:38.02. It marked the third-straight meet where the California native has claimed a top-three spot.
"This is a great honor for someone who has worked tremendously hard over the past six months," head coach Jon Murray stated. Â "Miguel's improvements this year have come from his preparation during the summer and increased concentration on the sport."
Bautista's time improved by 51 seconds compared to last year's performance at the Chile Pepper Festival. This also marked Bautista's second Chile Pepper Festival appearance in which he has pinned the top time amongst teammates.
Bautista and the rest of the Texas Tech cross country team will continue their season at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 15.
