Barden Earns First-Career Big 12 Weekly Honor

Michael Barden is named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week
IRVING, Texas – Texas Tech sophomore punter Michael Barden has been named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Barden is the first Red Raider to win this award since Jakeem Grant did so on Nov. 2, 2015, following a game where he had a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown, also against Oklahoma State.
On Saturday, Barden completed a 15-yard pass on a fake punt to give Texas Tech a crucial first down, and also executed and recovered his own surprise onside kick to give Tech the ball down seven in the fourth quarter.
Barden punted the ball five times, including a long punt of 57 yards, which was one of two times he pinned the Cowboys inside their own 20-yard line.
He also averaged 64.8 yards on six kickoffs, with three resulting in touchbacks.
The Red Raiders return to action Nov. 19, at Iowa State. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m., and the game will be televised on FS1. Fans can listen to the contest on the more than 40 radio affiliates of the Texas Tech Sports Network.
