
Douglass, Akiu Receive All-Big 12 Honors

Senior Lauren Douglass earns third straight All-Big 12 selection.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball's senior middle blocker Lauren Douglass and sophomore libero Reyn Akiu have been named to the 2016 All-Big 12 Second Team, the league office announced Monday.

Douglass's selection marks her third-straight second team selection, while Akiu is recognized for the first time in her career.

Douglass followed her record breaking 2015 campaign in which she set the school's single-season hitting percentage mark at .377 with another stellar season, finishing fourth in the Big 12 with a .340 hitting percentage. The Flower Mound, Texas, native posted 19 double-digit kill performances in her senior season and hit .440 or better in 10 matches, including a .773 clip against Portland State that ranks sixth all-time in a single match in Texas Tech history and was the top mark in the Big 12 this season.

Along with her clean swings, Douglass also led the team in total kills (343) and kills per set (.306). In 21 of the Red Raider's 31 matches this season, she either led the team or tied for the team lead in kills, including a season-high 18 against TCU on Nov. 19. Overall, she posted 19 double-digit kill performances on the season, while also leading Tech on the line blocking with 21 solo blocks and 93 block assists for a total of 114.

Akiu posted Texas Tech's second most individual digs in a single season with 547 digs in her first year as a full-time starter. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native led the team or tied for the team lead in 27 of 31 matches this year, posting .497 digs per set which ranked second in the Big 12. She recorded a career high 33 digs in a four-set match against Baylor on Nov. 2, which stood as the most digs in a four-set match in the Big 12 this season and tied for the second-most overall.

Douglass and Akiu have been nominated for American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region awards, which will be revealed on Dec. 6.
